How to setup LAN?

You can use iSatAsia.com Broadband service if you have a LAN of 2 or more PCs, so that all PCs in your network could share the Broadband access to the Internet. In order to accomplish this you need to follow a few simple steps.

1. Configure Network settings on the server

2. Configure Network settings on the Client PCs

3. Configure return channel

4. Configure iSatAsia.com Broadband settings

5. Configure the Server to act as a gateway for LAN PCs

Configure Network settings on the server

Configure the Network Interface Card (NIC) that will connect to your Internal network.

The Internal NIC MUST be assigned an IP address, also called a Static IP address. This address is never seen by the Internet or your ISP. It will not effect anything that your ISP has had you configure for your Internet connection. To add TCP/IP to your Internal NIC follow the steps below:

For Windows 2000:

1) Right click Network Neighborhood to open a drop down menu

2) Click the Properties option - this will open the connections this computer is able to make

3) Right click Local Area Connection to open a drop down menu

4) Select the Properties option - This will open the properties for all adapters and protocols installed on this computer. If TCP/IP in NOT listed, click Install to open a new Dialog box

5) Single click Protocol and click Add

6) Double click TCP/IP

7) Click OK

8) Close the Select Network Component Type Dialog box

9) Click OK to reboot the computer

The next step is to configure the TCP/IP protocol on the Internal NIC. Right click Network Neighborhood, and select Properties to view the network properties. Select the Protocols tab and choose the TCP/IP protocol for the Internal NIC, which was added in previous step.

1) Double click the TCP/IP protocol listed in the General Tab - this will open the TCP/IP properties bound to this interface

2) Select use the following IP Address

3) Enter 192.168.0.1 for the IP Address, the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0, leave the Default Gateway blank

All other settings (for both DNS and Advanced) should be left AS IS

4) Click OK until you leave the set-up screen

5) Click OK to reboot the computer

For Windows 98/ME

1) Click Start / Settings / Control Panel

2) Double click the Network icon to open all network properties (i.e. protocols, adapters, etc.)

3) Click Add to open a new Dialog box

4) Click Protocol, then click Add

5) Click Microsoft in the left window, and in the right window scroll down and choose TCP/IP

6) Click OK

7) Click Cancel in the Select Network Component Type Dialog box

8) Click OK to reboot the computer

Configure the TCP/IP protocol on the internal adapter.

1) Click Start / Settings / Control Panel.

2) Double click the Network icon to open all network properties (i.e. protocols, adapters, etc.). Locate the TCP/IP protocol assigned to the internal adapter (added in previous step).

3) Double click the TCP/IP bound to the internal adapter to open the properties

4) Click the IP Address tab

5) Specify an IP address

6) Enter an IP address. The most commonly used "private" internal IP is: 192.168.0.1

Enter the following numbers in the Subnet Mask field: 255.255.255.0

7) Click OK

8) Click OK to reboot the computer
